Personal Goals for 2021 Mid-year

Can you believe we’re already more than HALF WAY through 2021!!!

I mean where did the year even go? If you read my last post you probably know it’s already been a bit of a crazy ride for me, mostly centered around the last 3 months. But even so it’s time to get motivated, time to sit down with one’s self and really think about all those goals you set for yourself at the beginning of the year and see how far you’ve come. And if you’re not where you thought you’d be, that’s ok…then you are in a position (like myself) to refocus and set mid-year goals! Honestly I prefer goal setting every 3 to six months, because the year (as you can tell) will get lost. There’s just so much time in one year, but somehow you realize you spent most of it sitting on the couch with Netflix, scrolling through some social media or just distracting yourself from the actual missions and goals you set out to achieve. When you break the year up into quarters you’re really allowing yourself the time to reflect, see what’s working and what’s not working, and realign the path your own…because if we’re honest with ourselves, it’s really easy to detour in the path of life.

So that’s what today’s post is all about! My mid-year reflections, my mid-year goals because my life has been a hectic string ball and I could not tell which way was up or down. So I’ve set some pretty specific goals and visions for the rest of the year, and ones to get me started for next year.

A little progress each day adds up to big results.

Goal #1:

Pay off my excess debt, outside of my car loan and my student loans. This includes my credit cards, loans I took out, and pay as you go loans used to purchase certain items. The goal is to have at least 95% of this paid off by September 30th. Originally it was to pay it off before the student loan payments started back up again, but even though the student loan payments have been paused again until January I am still sticking with this goal. In fact I am even more motivated to gettting it paid off since anything that I pay towards my student loans will go directly to the principal!

Goal #2:

Get myself a side hustle…more specifically get to working with VIPKid. For those of you that don’t know VIPKid is a teaching english program that makes it super easy for anyone to hop on. You go through a one on one “test” and once you pass you’re given all the tools and lessons you need to teach english. I’ve read all I can on this program and am really excited to get started, you choose your hours and make some extra cash on the side. The goal will be to get up early and do a couple of lessons before work. Wish me luck!

Goal #3:

Lose 30lbs…now before you start with the judgements let me explain something about this weight. If you’ve read my previous blogs, you’ll remember I had a pretty overwhelming 2019. At the beginning I was the weight I feel comfortable at, I was fit and didn’t have a hard time breathing when walking up some steps. But somewhere in that dark bubble I just curled up in a ball and ate…if I wasn’t working I was a couch potato at home eating whatever take out was available and drinking alcohol on a daily…packed full of sugar. The last year I’ve been trying to get back to that comfortable weight, but relationships are distracting and I still wasn’t in the best environment. Everyone has the weight they know their body is best at and my goal is to get back there and let me tell you…I am off to a good start! Not having a Northeast winter to stop by is motivation enough…hibernating is no longer an option.

Goal #4:

Learn about investments and put that money to work. Simple as that, and I’ve been learning, so anyone that has any good insights please let me know.

Goal #5:

Pay off my car loan and student loans. I’ve estimated with the extra payments I should have my car paid off by Summer of next year (fingers crossed), then the focus will be fully on those student loans. It’s crazy to think this…but hey crazier things have happened right?

That’s it…those are my goals to focus on for the next 6 months and by then I’ll have accomplished most of them and will look at what the next life goals are. Isn’t it weird how grief takes you to a place outside yourself? I always find when I’m working through some scary and heartbreaking moments in my life that I can see things a bit clearer. I can see the big picture of my life and where I want to end up in the next 5-6 years. I’m not going to lie I do not have the relationships stuff figured out, but the next best thing is creating the life I want to be happy with and focus on the relationship with myself. Until then…we take it a day at a time.
