Five People To Surround Yourself With For A Better Life
I’m sure you’ve heard that quote that says something along the lines of “you are who you surround yourself with”. But does anyone actually take the moment to think about who they surround themselves with? I mean think about it…when was the last time you stopped and took a moment to think about the types of people you hung out with or better yet, what type of person you were becoming? Sure, we think about the people we are now in this present time, but how often do we think about the path we’re going down and how we go to be there?
I get it, people enter our lives and we go with it, we make new friends, we try new things…but somewhere along there we start doing things for others and begin losing small parts of ourselves. Then, before you know it, you have no idea how you got to where you are or who the heck you are!
These are some of the items that have just been swimming around my head lately. Who are the important people in my life? Who am I becoming? Have I been aware of who I allow into my space? Honestly, I think I’ve been pretty good at knowing who needs to stay and who needs to go. I’ve decided that there are 5 types of people you need to surround yourself with. So without further ado, let’s get started.
1. Surround yourself with the Dreamer
Dreamers…believe it or not you just don’t see much of them in your everyday life anymore. More and more we see people settling for life just as it is, they don’t look to the future and all that it could offer. They don’t have goals (except to make it to retirement without dying)and they don’t have aspirations. In retrospect, most of society has stopped dreaming! So when you find one of these amazing oddities you do not want to let them go. So find those dreamers, get inspired by them, use their dreams to motivate you into having your own. See the impossibilities they’re allowing themselves to think of and know you can do the same.
2. Surround yourself with the Doers
Take that dreamer and raise it another amazing oddity…the Doer. These kinds of people don’t just spend their time reflecting and thinking about all the possibilities for their life. Instead, the doers begin building on those dreams. They move from the thinking part and start creating. Whether it’s creating change in their life, creating a new way of doing things, creating a new business…whatever it is the point is they’re taking action and getting it done. Imagine being surrounded by these kinds of people, the kind that makes you believe you actually can accomplish your dreams. These people have taken their dreams and made them a reality, something to physically see and touch. Now think about how that will drive you and your dreams.
3. Surround yourself with the Optimist
An optimist lives and breaths hope and positivity, they don’t just “preach” about it. They’re the ones that are speaking life into things, they don’t think about glass half full or half empty…they’re just happy they have the damn drink! So often we’re letting our emotions get the best of us, we’re so stuck in what we’re doing that we forget to enjoy the journey. Well, the optimist does just that! They remind you of the beauty around you, the things that you should smile about. Don’t allow yourself to get bogged down with everything, be an optimist, remind yourself of all the amazing things that could and should happen.
4. Surround yourself with the Successful
Find people that started as dreamers and went onto accomplish all they said they would. The Successful are the proof that anything and everything is possible. They are the constant reminder that your dreams can be more than dreams; your life can be all you want it to be. Trust me when I say we all need that reminder. Talk to the successful people in your life, hang out with them, listen to their stories and learn from them.
5. Surround yourself with the Questioner
It’s so important to always be asking questions. What do I want? Why do I want it? Is this benefiting me? Is this teaching me? Being surrounded by these types of people allows you, not only to be striving for more but also allows you to know whether you’re on the right path for what you want or not. Don’t be afraid of the questions, don’t let them confuse you. Instead, take time to reflect on them. The questioners are people that understand the reason behind all their inquiries and they’re not afraid to answer the questions that come up. In the end, knowing the answers, even just facing them, allows you to get to the end of your path and possibly onto a new one.
These are the five people you should strive to surround yourself with, even if just for a coffee date, a night out, or a stay-in. Trust me when I say you’ll be influenced by these types of characters and they’ll leave you feeling motivated and ready to take on the world.
So think about the people you currently spend most of your time with. Are they the ones on this list? Do they motivate you? Are they influencing you to be the person you aspire to be? Or are they draining you? Are they leading you away from the path you’re meant to walk down? Spend some time and reflect on it…remember, you are the people you surround yourself with.
